5 Alpha Reductase: It is an enzyme that helps to convert testosterone into dihydro testosterone, which binds to the hair follicles and retards their growth in individuals sufferining from male pattern baldness

Acne keloidalis: Formerly known as dermatitis papillaris capillitii, Acne keloidalis, a form of scarring alopecia, is common in people with stiff or curly hair and those with darker skin. It is a destructive scarring folliculitis that occurs most commonly on the occipital scalp and looks like inflamed papules and plaques. Common treatments include antibiotics, steroid gels and hair removal lasers.

Aldactone: Popular brand name for Spironolactone, it is a medicine used to treat high blood pressure and edema. However, because of its strong antiandrogenic nature, this drug is also prescribed widely to treat hair loss particularly in women with excessive androgens.

Allograft: A process where a tissue or organ from one individual is transplanted to the body of another individual.

Autograft: A process where a tissue or organ from one within the same individuals body.

Alopecia: An inclusive clinical term to describe baldness or hair loss of any type.

Alopecia Adnata: Congenital baldness or hair loss that occurs shortly after birth.

Alopecia Areata: It is a relatively common form of hair loss. It affects the scalp when the normal hair formation is disrupted by an auto-immune disorder, resulting in sharply defined patches as well as a general reduction in hair density. Hair loss is often temporary but rarely permanent.

Alopecia Marginalis: Also known as Traction alopecia, this type of hair loss occurs due to continuous traction from a tight braid, pony tail or plaiting of hair. Continuous use of hairclips can also cause this type of hair loss.

Alopecia Neurotica: This type of hair loss is commonly associated with nervous disorder as it occurs generally after an injury to the nervous system.

Alopecia Senilis: It is baldness due to old age. During the late years of human life the body metabolism slows down and nutrients fail to nourish the follicles resulting a general thinning on the head for which nothing can be done.
Alopecia Totalis: It is an advanced stage of Alopecia Areata which results in a total loss of scalp hair.

Alopecia Universalis: It is a total and all inclusive loss of hair that occurs throughout the body. It may be a final culmination of Alopecia Areata or may be triggered off by some other reasons.

Amino Acid: Amino Acids are the central structural units of proteins. Human body can generate 10 amino acids, some of which, particularly Cysteine, are catalytically responsible for healthy growth of hair.
