Follicular Unit Extraction – Modern Hair Transplant

Posted on February 5, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized |

In the past, you may have heard about someone you know going for a hair transplant, and you might have thought to yourself that this would be a painfully unpleasant process, and the results won’t look natural. But today, there is a process known as follicular unit extraction (FUE) by which you can get rid of balding scalps and receding hairlines. Follicular unit extraction, is more effective from earlier methods such as “punch grafts”.

This extraction of the follicular unit involves removing the small groups of hair follicles from the donor area and reinserting them into the receptor. This procedure does take longer than the old punch grafts and even the modern follicular unit transplant (FUT) strip technique, but it is virtually painless compared to other techniques used in hair restoration. With new advancements in the equipment surgeons have at their disposal, the extraction of the follicular unit has become much easier. This also allows the recovery process to be less painful, resulting in no stitches (FUT process does) and easier and faster healing times. These are the main reasons why the FUE procedure has gained popularity as a hair transplantation option in recent years.
